Alethea Global Cooperative Launches Course as International Education Sector Faces Need to Respond to Increasing Student Climate Demands

Empowering Educators to Address Climate Change Through Innovative Learning Solutions

Vancouver, CANADA  – Alethea Global Cooperative has launched the first-of-its-kind asynchronous online course “Foundations of Climate Justice and Internationalization”, now available for practitioners of International Education globally.

According to the QS World University Rankings in 2023, 43% of students actively sought out information on how sustainable a prospective university is and another 39% who might seek out that information. That leaves only 18% of students who don’t look at the information on a university’s sustainability.

A 2021 report published by Times Higher Ed Consultancy revealed that 79% of students think that universities have an important role to play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Responding to this demand, Alethea Global Cooperative’s “Foundations of Climate Justice and Internationalization” course is the first of its kind focusing on climate justice and carbon literacy, two competencies required of international practitioners of today to prepare for the sector of tomorrow. The course content is tailored for various roles in international education, including study abroad advisors, faculty members, and internationalization leaders.

“It is time for international educators to develop climate justice and carbon emissions competencies that address the evolving demands of students, particularly in relation to their expectations that universities must take urgent action on climate change,” said CJ Tremblay, Alethea’s Founder and Managing Director.

The asynchronous online course is designed for educators and professionals in international education seeking to understand the intersections between their field and climate change. Content includes chapters on the Impact of and on Practitioners and Climate Anxiety; System Design, System Change; Student Demand and Climate Action Trends; Climate Crisis and Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; Good Practices and Existing Solutions; and much more.

Participants will evaluate existing practices through a climate justice lens, commit to integrating climate justice into their work, and learn to recommend actionable steps for implementing these perspectives within their organizations. Additionally, they’ll earn a certificate of proficiency in climate justice and internationalization.

In addition to in-house trainers from Alethea, the participants will also get to hear from guest lecturers Dr. Samia Chasi, Dr. Savo Heleta, Dr. Robin Shields, as well as contributors from KU Leuven in Belgium, Tec de Monterrey in Mexico, Champlain College Dublin in Ireland, North Island College in Canada, and Massey University in New Zealand.

“We take immense pride in the caliber and expertise of our contributors at the Alethea Global Knowledge Collective, whose diverse knowledge and insights on climate justice and international education enrich our community and drive impactful change,” said CJ.

Special Pricing is available to promote equity for low- and middle-income participants, with two pricing options: $495 CAD and $346.50 CAD. A free preview is available to all interested participants, allowing them to explore course content and assess its relevance to their professional development in international education.
